Peer Mediation

Peer mediation is a program by which students are trained to assist their peers through the development of mediation and conflict resolution skills.

Laura L. Noah ran a middle school peer mediation program in Dorchester, Massachusetts from September 2001 through June 2003 and then supervised peer mediation programs in Dorchester, South Boston, and Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts until February 2004 when she relocated to Chicago, Illinois.

In the 2001/2002 school year, the Peer Mediation Program that Laura ran handled 125 mediations, 93% of which resulted in some form of agreement. 10% of all mediations were self-referrals where kids in the school were aware of the program and sought it out for help in resolving their dispute.

In the 2002/2003 school year, the Peer Mediation Program that Laura ran handled 209 mediations or an average of 1.16 per day. Of those, 97% of mediations resulted in some form of agreement. 18% of mediations were self-referrals.

Noah Mediation Services offers trainings in peer mediation and conflict resolution to students, teachers, administrators, parents, staff, and community leaders interested in assisting young people in developing positive and productive tools to better address and manage the conflict in their lives.
