Impediments to Mediation

In instances of untreated or improperly treated addictions including but not limited to substance abuse, gambling addictions, and pornography addictions, and/or mental health issues, mediation may not be appropriate.

Noah Mediation Services screens for these and other potential impediments to mediation, including domestic violence.  Given that one of the core principles of mediation is self-empowerment, NMS takes the screening process very seriously.  If at any time during the process the mediator believes that an impediment to mediation exists, the mediator will not begin the mediation, will terminate mediation, and/or will delay the mediation until a more appropriate time.  Noah Mediation Services will also provide clients with referrals to outside professionals when appropriate.

If addictions and/or mental health issues are properly treated, however, mediation may be an appropriate way in which to resolve disputes for some couples and families.  Please contact Noah Mediation Services with questions regarding potential impediments to mediation.
